To any prospective client, I offer a $25 Initial Evaluation of your first five pages, which will be credited if you sign up for a full critique. Simply submit your manuscript and we'll offer an initial impression of the five pages, via e-mail, of the issues that must be addressed to improve your work, as well as areas of strength.
Once we’ve decided to work together, a General Critique is the first step in improving your work. After carefully reading your manuscript, I write a thorough critique responding to the story as a whole and to specific concerns such as characters, plot, setting, and so forth. I don’t merely point you to weaknesses; I also indicate where you’ve done things well. Your General Critique will be very detailed, pointing you to specific chapters and scenes, and will guide you through your revision. I recommend keeping it by your side as you do your rewrite.
After you have finished your revision, I may proceed to detailed Line Editing to help polish your manuscript before marketing. Line Editing is much more than copyediting. Yes, I do fix grammar, spelling, and punctuation, but I also move sentences and paragraphs around as necessary, fix images that don't work, tighten phrasing, clarify point of view, and help you say things in a more original way. The edits may be done on hardcopy or on disk, as you prefer.
Note: A General Critique is strongly recommended before proceeding to Line Editing. Your manuscript may have many issues that must be addressed through substantial revision before this service would be useful to you, and I don't want to waste your money or our time in creating a beautifully line edited copy of a work that requires major rewriting before it is marketable.
Please e-mail Martha O’Connor, the Writer’s Consultant for details or current pricing and to discuss your requirements.
